HONG KONG CITY LIGHTS
‘HONG KONG CITY LIGHTS’

This design is a unabashed fun, vibrant and chaotic representation of Hong Kong we all know and love so much!
Layers of iconic vintage neon signage all fighting for space in an already narrow window of sky, slotted in between the gritty high-rises. The infamous ‘ding dings’ wind their way along the bustling inner city streets vying for space between the mini buses and taxis, all jostling for first place at the lights. Hidden amongst the colourful mosaic of imagery you will find letterboxes, lanterns, bird feeders and birdcages all everyday objects we associate with this energetic multi layered city. The little symbolic taxi dashboard ornament is giggling whilst the tram drivers line up their colourful thermos flasks at the ready for their teatime snacks.
Whilst I lived in a more laid back and gentle Sai Kung during my years in Hong Kong I would regularly jump on what we called the ‘bullet bus’ down to Choi Hung and relish a speedy white knuckle ride where the drivers are paid by trip, I would disembark pumped full of adrenaline and ready for my weekly fix of city life!
