My Lucky Cat design was born from the idea of wanting to create a ‘lucky canvas’ - based on the principle of businesses and homes displaying the famous Maneki-neko cat in their front windows. The cat is traditionally believed to beckon and invite in good luck, prosperity, and good fortune. I have based this print around the cat as the central character, and have surrounded him with other auspicious symbols - Chinese Gods, lucky fruits, red and gold colours, lanterns, firecrackers, and the 12 Chinese Zodiac signs are all featured here. I had great fun walking around the lively HK markets at Chinese New Year to find my inspiration and imagery for this design, and I hope it brings good luck to every home it hangs in!
